The buses set down passengers at the Departures Level and depart from the Arrivals Level, between Exits 4 and 5. They operate 24/7, including holidays, connecting the airport with four destinations. The airport buses’ tickets have a different price that the normal buses.

Express

The express trains have a limited number of stops.

Express E Bus lines:

E14 (Syntagma – OAKA Ministry of Education): Connects Syntagma square (where there’s Syntagma metro station – Lines 2 & 3) with the Ministry of education (where there’s Neratziotissa station – metro line 1 & suburban). Supposedly, there are two more buses, E15 (Larissis Station – TEI (school line), though I have no idea which one of the two) and E90 (Piraeus – Athens University). But, on the official website, there isn’t a link to their routes, which makes me wonder if they actually operate.

Express X Bus lines:

It has two bus lines, X14, which is one of the night trains in the previous paragraph (24-hour buses/night buses) and X80.

X80 (Piraeus – Acropolis – Syntagma): It operates from 07:00 – 21:30, every 30min and follows this route: http://www.oasa.gr/pdf/x80.pdf

Normal Buses

There are a lot of buses with different routes, that operate from around 5:00 till 00:00, depending on which bus it is (some retire earlier). There are also some of them that belong to each municipality and have a different schedule than the rest.

Trolleys

Trolleys

While there isn’t an official website offering information, the OASA website  shows their routes and timetables.  To tell them apart from the buses, trolleys have an one-digit or a two-digit number. There are 19 routes (numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24 and 25). They operate the same hours as the buses, but no.11 (ANO PATISIA – N. PAGKRATI – N. ELVETIA) operates 24/7.

Ticket info

The reason why I put ticket info here and not at the third and final part of this article, is because all the aforementioned means of transport use the same ticket and have the same price, apart from the airport metro, the airport buses and the express buses. The regular price is 1,40€ and the reduced is 0,60€. For the airport train it’s the same price to go to stations Pallini, Peania-Kantza and Koropi, but to go to the airport specifically the price changes.

Apart from the ticket (aka ATH.ENA ticket, which by the way is reloadable, so you don’t need to throw it away), there is also ATH.ENA card which works as the ticket, is reloadable, but you can make it either anonymous or personal. If you are a tourist, staying in Athens for a few days, I suggest you don’t go through the trouble of issuing a card, just buy a ticket and reload it whenever you want.

Important info: use only the white machines to issue tickets, the gray are the old ones that we don’t use and don’t issue the right tickets.

Here is a more analytic link to ticket types and prices: http://www.oasa.gr/pdf/en/TICKETS_AND_TRAVEL_CARDS.pdf
Also the official website of the ATH.ENA card: https://www.athenacard.gr/index.jsp

Again I’m TRULY sorry for the HUGE post. I pinky promise the next one will be much smaller!

Till next time! 😉

xoxo, Myrto
