“I don’t need travel insurance” some of you may say. I used to think the same, never getting a travel insurance unless I had to have it (e.g. to get a visa for Russia).
How wrong I was…
You see, in November, I went to Italy. The plan was to go from Athens to Bologna airport and from there to Florence for two days (Friday and Saturday), then go back to Bologna for a day (Sunday) and return to Athens the next day.
Apparently the universe had other plans for me. On Friday evening I received an email that my flight on Monday was cancelled due to a strike. I tried to change my flight to Sunday night, but that flight was full. That meant I had to leave on Sunday from another airport, because I had to be at work on Tuesday.
In the end I got my money back from the cancelled return flight and booked a flight from Rome, the cost of which was almost four times the pIrice I had paid. I also had to cancel my hotel room in Bologna (from which I couldn’t get my money back) and book a train ticket from Florence to Rome and get a ticket from the train station to the airport.
To talk in numbers, I had to spend more than 200€ (close to 300€) just to get back home.
The moral of the story is this : all that waste of money could have been avoided if I had a travel insurance, which would have covered all those costs. I definitely will not make the same mistake ever again.
Till next time!
XOXO, Myrto
